Thurs 8th October.

Day 1.
I found an entry for this date 1768 in 'The Natural History of Selborne' by Gilbert White. He talks of Sandpipers, Red backed butcher birds  both procurred (shot) in May of the same year, and Ring ouzels procurred end of September. I don't believe I have seen any of these birds and will enquire as to their habitats in 2010.
My garden is strangely quiet of birds, maybe they are gathering to migrate or are feared for their lives due to the large family of buzzards circling and mewling in the clear skies, although the Buzzards don't seem to get hungry until midday
I have a woodpigeon named bobblehead who has visited for the past 6 or 7 years , I think he may have been shot at some time, I would be interested if he visits anybody else as I am not sure of the size of their patch. And another who I have noticed this year I call him Goosestep as he has a strange walk, maybe a birth defect or the result of a battle.
